Intellispring Technologies recently completed moving several Lucent 5ESS switches for the 101st Airborne Division of the US Army. The 5ESS-2000 Switch is a multifunctional, digital, time division multiplexed (TDM) switching system that links government communications devices into the public switched telephone network: this includes telephones, computers, faxes, data systems, and other communications devices. With the capacity and flexibility to support multiple applications including wireline, wireless, voice, data and video, the 5E product family provides more than 300 voice calling features to support an array of non-classified government applications.
Although the U.S. Federal Government is moving towards a more mobile and wireless workforce, wireline voice networks remain a critical part of non-classified communications. The %E switch is still in service as a workhorse.
